For women and men who experience red, purple or blue veins and are searching for laser vein treatment or sclerotherapy in Westchester or New York City, Cosmetic Surgery Associates of New York offers sclerotherapy. This treatment is the primary method for treating superficial leg veins and is effective in treating the varying sizes of spider veins that most patients have.

If you would like to find out more about the vein treatments at any of our New York locations, request a complimentary consultation online or contact us at (914) 761-8667(914) 761-8667. Our surgeons look forward to helping you achieve your reconstructive and cosmetic goals.

What's New

Although lasers may sometimes be used in treating leg veins, laser treatment is generally not as effective or predictable as sclerotherapy. Laser vein removal in New York may be adequate, however, for treating tiny spider veins such as those that often form around the feet and ankles. In general, sclerotherapy is recommended to remove veins effectively and efficiently.

The CSANY Difference

At Cosmetic Surgery Associates of New York, we provide the leading treatments to remove veins of various colors and sizes. During your consultation, we will provide the optimal solution for removing veins, depending on the type of veins that need to be addressed. Together we will develop a solution that is tailored to your specific needs.

Procedure Overview

Using magnification and microscopic techniques, a sclerosing agent is injected directly into the vein. This affects the lining of the vessel, causing fibrous tissue to develop, which collapses the vein and makes it disappear. Because sclerotherapy does not affect the melanin pigment in your skin, the risk of skin discoloration (hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation) is reduced, and patients with tanned skin are not excluded from treatment.

Circumstances also exist where laser vein treatment in New York offers the only treatment option for our patients. Although rare, a patient may be allergic to the sclerosing agent, and pregnant women should not be exposed to the chemicals used with sclerotherapy. After childbirth, it is advisable to wait about 6 to 12 weeks after delivery to determine if treatment is necessary, as there is a high likelihood that prominent veins will regress or disappear when hormone fluctuations stabilize.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will I see results from sclerotherapy?

In general, it may take a few weeks after your treatments for your results to show. To see ideal results from sclerotherapy, it is recommended that you receive a few treatments, which can be repeated in monthly intervals. Because compression stockings need be worn after treatment, usually the winter months are ideal for this procedure.

What is recovery like?

After your vein treatment, you will be asked to wear support hose. Most of our patients report that they are able to return to work immediately after their treatment. Your physician will discuss with you what to expect after treatment.

Are my results permanent?

In most cases, veins that have been treated do not recur. Those that do recur, as well as newly-developed veins, may require "touch-ups" every few years.
